The Ultimate Fail-Safe: Manual Element Blurring for Screen Sharing
5/3/2026
Automation is incredible. At ScreenMask, we pride ourselves on having the most advanced, mathematically accurate automatic redaction engine on the market. Our algorithms can instantly identify and blur Credit Cards, SSNs, and banking codes without you ever lifting a finger.
But the web is messy.
Sometimes, the data you need to hide isn't a standardized number or a specific keyword. Sometimes it's a financial chart, a photograph, or a wildly unformatted HTML table that no algorithm could reliably predict.
For those edge cases, we built Manual Blur Mode.
When Automation Isn't Enough
Imagine you are doing a live product demonstration for a prospective enterprise client. You log into your SaaS dashboard, and right in the middle of the screen is a massive bar chart showing revenue from another client.
Because the chart is rendered as an SVG or a Canvas element rather than standard text, a text-based scanner won't catch it. You can't show that chart, but you also can't stop the demo.
This is exactly why Manual Blur Mode exists.
Point, Click, Redact.
With ScreenMask Pro, you have a digital magic wand right in your browser.
- Click the ScreenMask extension icon.
- Click the large "Enable Manual Blur Mode" button.
- The popup closes, and your mouse cursor transforms into a precision crosshair.
As you move your mouse across the webpage, ScreenMask highlights the underlying HTML elements with a dashed blue border. This allows you to easily target exactly what you want to hide—whether it's a tiny text span or a massive image container.
When you click the highlighted element, ScreenMask instantly applies a CSS-level blur filter to it, rendering it completely unreadable and unselectable.
You can continue clicking to blur as many elements as you need. When your dashboard is secure and ready for presentation, simply press the Escape key on your keyboard. Your cursor returns to normal, but the elements remain blurred for the duration of your session.
Presentation Confidence
Manual Blur Mode gives presenters the ultimate peace of mind. It acts as the perfect fail-safe: let our algorithms handle the standard sensitive data automatically, and use Manual Mode to quickly obscure any visual layouts, charts, or images before hitting the "Share Screen" button.
Never leak sensitive visual data again. Secure your live demos with ScreenMask Pro.
